What's Next?
154,549 ballots were cast yesterday. That's about 17% turnout, with the approximate number of registered voters in Nassau County in the area of 900,000. I'm anxious to see what's next to keep the Islanders here. I'm disappointed to see the indifference, so obvious in the numbers. I just would like to see people participate in politics. Nothing crazy, just a little self education and...

Wine tastings.
My gripe in a nutshell is that I wish some tasting room staff would attempt to read the customer before deciding whether he or she is there to enjoy wine or to get blasted. Honestly, I’m a combination of both, but definitely toward the enjoyment end of the spectrum. Don’t just pour the shit, I can get that at a bar. Tell me a little something about it, I’m there for a reason....

I should have taken more pictures. I wish I had more money to buy more wine this weekend. That being said, I had a wonderful time on the north fork with my sister. I haven’t laughed so much in a long time. I’ll lay it down sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Need help with a practical joke
ex-genius: yeahiwasintheshit: gravyholocaust: When the space shuttle arrives back on Earth, we all need to be dressed up in ape costumes. We need everyone in America to do it or it won’t work. Pass it on. Dear Everyone. See above. Do not mess this up. Failure is not an option.  If only. I’m taking this thought of this with me today, it might end up being my safe place.

I have trouble swallowing when I really think about it. The world seems very expensive lately. It just does. And I don’t know what to do about that.

Good day, Sir. I said good day!
I live on Long Island. I grew up in New York City. With regard to the five boroughs, Nassau and Suffolk Counties, most excursions aren’t of the overnight variety, however, the farthest destinations of the North and South Forks are 90 and 100 mile drives, respectively. I had a notion to drive out on a Friday, drink a respectable amount of wine, eat well, stay the night, indulge in some local...

I’m feeling confrontational today. I think I’m speeding toward “that time” (I fucking hate that phrase). I had a terrible night at work and I’m not betting on today being much better.

And here's a little advice

So tired.
I’ve been a night shift worker for five years. My brain wants me to be a morning person. It’s a battle of epic, exhausted proportions. I’m attending a class for work today at the corporate headquarters. I’ve had enough coffee to cause tremors. It’s 947824% humidity. I often wish I was a 9 to 5er, but this morning I really just want to go back to bed.

Perfect. inthefade: Dear DJ, So, this is it. You finally made it. Today, you’ll put on a cap and gown and you will be handed a diploma and when it’s over we’ll hug and I’ll congratulate you and we’ll both know what I mean is “Thank god that’s over.” The last four years or so were a bit of a struggle but you pulled…

Heel dragger.
I am a procrastinator. A ‘Procrastinatrix’ maybe? I haven’t smoked a cigarette in a month, awesome, yes. I’ve been kinda sorta eating better. Still dicking around with some foods. Prepping for Tough Mudder? And my second Army Ten-Miler?! I need to get on top of that asap. I decided to reread the Paleo Solution for direction. I lost over 40 pounds 7 years ago following...

I have woken up 17 times in a row and not smoked a cigarette. I want to be humble about it but I’m proud of myself so go screw. One of the many motivational time wasters I’ve been obliged to tolerate in my military and corporate careers referred to 21 days as the over/under for good habits. I’m trying to pace myself with leaf turning so I don’t crash and burn. I’ve...

Wait... what?
The human condition depending on community? No man is an island? Is that the root of coincidence? I walked my dog, as I do every day and night. I crossed paths with a man walking his dog. Casey is a female, 17 year-old Chow/Retriever. My dog, Bear, is a male, 12 year-old Chow/Sheep Dog (Belgian Shepherd). She made me feel like he’d live forever- which he will (fingers in my ears, not...

I’m sorry. I’ll never ignore a call or blow you off again. That statement is no deeper than the words I’ve chosen. I am all warmth and love when it comes to you, and I’ll be that way for you always. Whether you have a beer with me next Monday or next year. We’re both awesome people, and although I know it may always be present, I hope the ugly things I did won’t...

russianpencil: On July 11th, 2010, Tom Gerhardt and I had an idea for an iPhone accessory: a tripod mount that doubled as a stand. Five months later, customers began to receive our product, the Glif, in the mail. This turnaround, from idea to market in five months by two guys with no retail or manufacturing…

givemesomethingtoread: This was my first full year at the helm of Give Me Something To Read, and to mark it, I’ve compiled this list of the best articles and essays I posted through 2010 (limited to those that were actually published in 2010). It’s one of those nights where I could throw on a pair of shoes and just go for a damn walk. I’m itching to move, my skin is crawling. I know I could walk it off if I tried. I’m antsy. I want to sleep but it isn’t time. I fear if I go to sleep now I’ll wake unhappy, and I’m not unhappy right now, I’m just jumpy.

an oenophile
Not yet, but given discretionary money and an uncommitted weekend here and there, it’s a possibility. I spent this past Sunday on “The North Fork” of Long Island. I visited two wineries and ate a nice, early dinner. Jamesport and Macari. East End tasting and Vintage tasting. Purchases included Rose from Jamesport, dos aguas and Block E from Macari. I wouldn’t add or take...

chocolate covered chaos
I decided to attempt to make chocolate covered bacon. I also went for apple slices as a result of having too much chocolate. As of this moment I can say that it’s rather tasty, however, it is so horrible looking that I didn’t bother to take a photo. I didn’t have pork bacon available so I used turkey bacon. I cooked it up and set it on a plate. The plan went wrong when I started...

I think we use superlatives entirely too much. I stepped outside in the evening and the weather was beautiful. The air smelled clean and I was very comfortable. I was enjoying it very much, but it wasn’t the greatest thing I’ve ever experienced, it was really just quite nice. Earlier that evening, after translating Latin, I had a great meal and a really good glass of wine. It was...

I want to travel. I get distracted when I’m trying to work with thoughts of the different places I want to go. I look them up on Wikipedia and Google Maps. I watch episodes of No Reservations on the Travel Channel repeatedly. I want to go to Uruguay most of all. It looks amazing.
